Latin Mass Society

Training, Courses and Talks

Residential Latin and Greek

Our annual Residential Latin Course takes place in August; from 2022 we are offering beginner’s New Testament Greek as well and beginners and intermediate Latin, aiming at the Latin of the Traditional liturgy.

There are discounts for LMS members, clergy, religious, and seminarians.

While booking is open, you will find the details on the Events Calendar.

Online Latin Courses

Mr Matthew Spencer and his assistant Peter Day-Milne teach a rolling programme of online Latin Courses for all levels, some focusing on the liturgy, others on Christian Latin, the Latin of modern Church documents, and on Classical Latin.

See the main page here.

St Tarcisius Server Training Days

Throughout the year, the Society of St Tarcisicus hosts days on which men and boys are taught all the roles for Low Mass and Sung Mass, and High Mass. Those attending have the opportunity to enroll in the Society and be promoted from grade to grade.

The Society of St Tarcisius is a sodality/guild for altar servers devoted to promoting the dignified, devout and accurate service of the altar in the Traditional Roman Rite and to uphold these standards. This formation is aimed to be developed and promoted in the spirit of their patron, St Tarcisius, who accepted death rather than allow the profanation of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

See their website.

Guild of St Clare Vestment Mending

The Guild of St Clare is the LMS’ group dedicated to the making and mending of liturgical vestments. Their local groups organise meetings all over the country, and two annual Sewing Retreats, where skills are passed on and work done on the LMS’s own vestment collection and vestments belonging to our priest supporters and their parishes. The Guild organises an annual training day with the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) and sponsors a place each year on the RSN’s Certificate Course.

See their website and the Events Calendar.

Gregorian Chant

The Chant scholas associated with the Latin Mass Society all over the country encourage new members to join to learn how to sing the chant, such as the Houghton Schola in London.

The LMS also sponsors professional training for scholas through the Gregorian Chant Network. See the GCN website for more information.

The LMS also sponsors sacred polyphony, and has a polyphonic group in London, the Southwell Consort.

Iota Unum Talks in London

These take place throughout the year, usually on the last Friday of the month, with breaks in the Summer and over Christmas.

See the Events Calendar for details.
