LMS Walsingham Pilgrimage 2025
Booking is now open for the Latin Mass Society’s annual walking pilgrimage from Ely to Walsingham, which will take place from Thursday, 21 August, to Sunday, 24 August 2025. Inspired by the great Catholic walking pilgrimages, such as the Chartres Pilgrimage in France, this journey is an act of prayer, penance, and devotion to Our Lady. Each day will include High Mass in the Traditional Roman Rite, along with spiritual reflections, devotions, and hymn singing as pilgrims make their way to England’s historic Marian shrine.
Last year, 230 pilgrims took part in the 57-mile walk, with around 400 faithful gathering in Walsingham for the final High Mass and Procession. This year’s pilgrimage will be particularly special as it will be accompanied by a relic of the True Cross, carried as part of the Latin Mass Society’s Holy Cross Pilgrimage.
The pilgrimage culminates at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, one of the most significant Marian shrines in Europe. Founded in 1061 after the Virgin Mary appeared in a vision to the noblewoman Richeldis de Faverches, Walsingham became a major medieval pilgrimage destination, drawing kings, clergy, and laity from across Christendom. At Our Lady’s command, Richeldis built a replica of the Holy House of Nazareth, the place where the Annunciation took place, making Walsingham known as ‘England’s Nazareth’. Though the original shrine was destroyed during the Reformation, devotion to Our Lady of Walsingham has been revived, and today it remains a place of deep spiritual significance, where pilgrims seek the intercession of Our Lady for the Conversion of England and personal intentions.
Pilgrims are also welcome to join our day pilgrimage to Walsingham on Sunday, 24 August 2025, which will start with a High Mass at the National Shrine and Basilica of Our Lady of Walsingham at 2.00 pm. A coach will depart from Westminster Cathedral at 9.15 am.
