Requiem for Bishop Wheeler

Requiem for Bishop Wheeler

The annual Mass of Requiem for Bishop William Wheeler will be celebrated at St Anne's Cathedral, Great George Street, Leeds on Saturday, 19th. November at 3.00 p.m. This will be followed by absolution at the catafalque.

The celebrant will be Fr Michael Hall. This year it will be a Missa Cantata with music by Schola Gregoriana.

Bishop Wheeler was appointed Bishop of Leeds in 1966 and remained such until his retirement in 1985. He was Bishop during the Council and in its hectic aftermath. Leeds was a diocese where sanity and saintliness ruled. Bishop Wheeler was grounded in the Blessed Sacrament and our Lady. He was uniquely generous in his provision of the Traditional Form of Mass and as such we owe him a debt of thanksgiving and prayerful remembrance.
