Triduum to be live-streamed from Warrington

Triduum to be live-streamed from Warrington

Following the decision to keep our Churches closed during Holy Week and Easter, the Bishops of England and Wales have made sure that the Latin Mass is available online in these unprecedented times.

The Latin Mass Society was contacted by Fr Chris Thomas, General Secretary to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales informing us that they had received several requests regarding the possible live-streaming of the Paschal Triduum in the Extraordinary Form. In response to this, Archbishop McMahon OP of Liverpool has asked The Priestly Fraternity of St Peter (FSSP) in Warrington to provide a sung liturgy during the Triduum in the Extraordinary Form and to live-stream the ceremonies. Fr de Malleray agreed to do this and so for the first time in England and Wales, Catholics can follow all the services of the Paschal Triduum including Tenebrae via the internet this week.

Archbishop McMahon said, ‘I would like to commend the live streaming of the Holy Week services from St Mary’s in Warrington to all those devoted to the Extraordinary Form. This will enable viewers to draw close to the sacred liturgy at the most important time in the Church’s calendar and to share in the deep spirituality of the FSSP. I would like to thank Fr de Malleray and his community for making this available so generously.’

The Latin Mass Society is tremendously grateful for the support of the Bishops’ Conference in ensuring Catholics across England and Wales and across the globe will have full access to a sung Traditional Latin liturgy during the Triduum.

Joseph Shaw, Chairman of the Latin Mass Society, writes, “ I am delighted that the most complete set of Easter Services possible in the circumstances is going to be made available by the Fraternity of St Peter, and that the Archbishop and other bishops see this as a service to the whole Church in this country in this difficult time. The more ancient form of the Catholic liturgy is not only loved by a loyal band of supporters but represents a liturgical richness for all Catholics.’
