Called Into Light
Meditations with Bishop Richard Challoner for the Christian Year
Contemporary people living increasingly busy lives are often too hard-pressed to find time for regular prayer and the study of Scripture. These meditations are structured to help them do so. Solidly founded in Scripture, they lead us through the Bible and the liturgical year of the Church.
Originally written by the Catholic Bishop Richard Challoner some two centuries ago, his meditations were widely adopted by the faithful. Now, inspired by daily use in his own prayer life, Stafford Whiteaker has updated and expanded them for Christians in this present age. Called into Light follows the modern Church calendar of solemnities and seasons. Intended for daily use, these meditations have a fluidity and brevity which makes them neither too complex for the modern mind nor too long for busy modern lives. In each we are led through self-examination in the light of Scripture to the personal challenge of the Gospel message.
The reflective nature and prayerful purpose of the meditation is to guide us to reconciliation with God in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
With a Foreword by the Rt Rev. Peter Brignall, Bishop of Wrexham, these meditations will enrich the lives of all the faithful who use them, who will, it is hoped, be drawn deeper to the Gospel teachings and inspired to turn to the Bible for further study and reflection.
