Catholic Academy in Warrington

In 2019, a few families in Bedfordshire took the initiative to bring a successful U.S. model of Classical Catholic education to the U.K. and founded Regina Caeli Academy UK, with pastoral support from the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter. In its second year, the number of families using the Academy has already doubled, with more families joining and moving to the area this year in anticipation of September 2021.

Greek and Latin Online Lenten Courses

These are a series of online courses using Christian Greek & Latin run by the experienced teacher of ancient languages, Matthew Spencer.

The LMS is very happy to support this initiative and will be subsiding some of the costs for the course aimed specifically at Priests, Seminarians and Religious:

Matthew is an excellent teacher, gently inspiring, patient, and helpful. His online Latin Courses are ideally suited to make the most of these difficult times of Covid restrictions.

Winner of the Schellhorn Prize for Sacred Music Composition 2020 has been announced

Young composer Dominic Veall wins £400 and a World Premiere performance of his work in London’s St Margaret’s Convent Chapel, Canning Town, on Christmas Eve .

Dominic, 25, is a former student at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, whose composition teachers have included Errollyn Wallen CBE and John Ashton Thomas.

His piece, Dormi, Jesu, will be performed by vocal ensemble Cantus Magnus during the Latin Mass Society's Christmas Mass at St Margaret's Convent Chapel, Bethell Avenue, Canning Town E16 4JU on Christmas Eve at 5.30pm.

Online Language of the Latin Mass course for Priests, Seminarians and Religious this Advent

These are a series of online courses using Christian Latin run by the experienced teacher of ancient languages, Matthew Spencer.

The LMS is very happy to support this initiative and will be subsiding some othe costs for the course aimed specifically at Priests, Seminarians and Religious:

THE LANGUAGE OF THE LATIN MASS

This course will run for 8 weeks from the 16th November - 12 December 2020 and 22nd February - 20th March 2021.  It consists of two one-hour sessions (on separate occassions) per week.

 

Schellhorn Prize for Sacred Music Composition

The Trustees of the Schellhorn Trust are pleased to announce the 2020 Schellhorn Prize for Sacred Music Composition competition.

Classical pianist Matthew Schellhorn founded the prize in 2014 in memory of his parents to foster artistic endeavour and encourage excellence in the Sacred Liturgy. The inaugural Prize was awarded in 2015 and was won by Marco Galvani. His composition was premiered during the Sacred Triduum organised by the LMS.

Father Charles Briggs RIP

Of your charity, pray for the repose of the soul of Father Charles Briggs (of St Mary's in Chislehurst) who died in the early hours of Tuesday, 25th August 2020 at St Christopher’s Hospice, fortified by all the rites of Holy Mother Church. 

Anima eius et animae omnium fidelium defunctorum, per misericordiam Dei, requiescat in pace. Amen.

New Traditional Apostolate in East Anglia

At the invitation of Bishop Alan Hopes, Fr Henry Whisenant, a young diocesan priest of the Diocese of East Anglia, is about to take up the role of Chaplain for the Extraordinary Form based in a house with a privately-owned chapel in the south east corner of the diocese, south of Ipswich: Our Lady Immaculate and St Edmund’s, Withermarsh Green. This is the first time a diocesan priest has been given such a role and is an exciting development.
