STATEMENT ON COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS)

STATEMENT ON COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) AND THE RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION AT CELEBRATIONS OF THE MASS ACCORDING TO THE EXTRAORDINARY FORM,
FROM THE LATIN MASS SOCIETY, 3RD MARCH 2020

The Bishops of England and Wales have issued ‘Guidelines’ (dated 27th February 2020) on steps to be taken in parishes in relation to the possible spread of COVID-19 (the Coronavirus).

Latin Vespers and Benediction in Gateshead

Solemn Vespers will be sung in St Joseph’s, Gateshead, on the Feast of St Joseph. This will be the first occasion that Solemn Vespers have been sung in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle since the liturgical changes were introduced in the 1960s.

Vespers - sung by the parish men’s Schola and the Westland Singers under the direction of Paul Dewhurst - will include a setting of the Magnificat by Orlando de Lassus, followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, with music by Elgar and Perosi.

Officiant: Fr Paul Zielinski. Cantors: Fr Michael Brown and Fr David Phillips.

William (Bill) Tomlinson RIP

Please pray for the repose of the soul of William Tomlinson, who died on Monday 10th February 2020. Bill was an employee of the LMS for a number of years, and helped establish the Office when it moved to Macklin Street. He was a life-long supporter of the Traditional Mass, and an altar server both man and boy. He regularly served the Monday evening Mass in Maiden Lane, our annual Masses in Westminster Cathedral and the Sacred Triduum in London. Pray also for his wife, Lucy, and family.

New Sunday Mass in Bournemouth

From Septuagesima Sunday (9th February 2020) onward, there will be a Traditional Latin Mass at St Thomas More Church, Iford, Bournemouth BH6 5QG, at 5.30 pm every Sunday and at 5 pm every Holy Day of Obligation. This has been agreed by kind permission of the Parish Priest, Fr Darryl Jordan.

These Masses will normally be celebrated by Fr Philomeno James, or other priests of the Marian Friars from Gosport, by kind permission of their superior, Fr Serafino Lanzetta.

Vacancy for a Part-time Office Assistant

The Latin Mass Society has a vacancy for a part-time Office Assistant.

Based in central London, the Office Assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day administrative work of the charity. This includes office administration, membership renewals, liaising with our country-wide network of representatives, processing orders from our on-line shop and over-seeing work undertaken by occasional volunteers in the office.

High Mass for Epiphany

It was good to see a packed church yesterday evening (Monday 6th January) for our celebration of the Epiphany of the Lord. The setting was Corpus Christi, Maiden Lane - the Westminster Diocesan Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament. The Celebrant was Fr Gabriel Diaz, with Fr Peter Littleton as Deacon and Fr Stuart Foster, Subdeacon; the music was provided by Cantus Magnus. The LMS organises a Sung Mass in Corpus Christi each Monday at 6.30pm and it was very kind of Fr Robinson to allow us to have High Mass on this occasion.

Christmas Holiday

The Latin Mass Society's Office will close on Friday 20th December 2019 for the Christmas holiday, it will re-open on Thursday 2nd January 2020.

For those who live in London, there will be a High Mass in St Mary Moorfields Church on Christmas Eve at 6pm, see here. For details of Masses in other parts of the country, see here.
