John Smeaton, former Chief Executive of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, spoke to us on his personal experience of "Discovering" or rather "Rediscovering" the Latin Mass!

Composer William Byrd (1543-1623)

Byrd 400 Festival

2023 witnessed the four hundredth anniversary of the death of William Byrd, one of England’s greatest Renaissance composers.  The Latin Mass Society will held a Byrd 400 Festival of sacred music to mark the occasion.  From September to December the Southwell Consort  under the direction of Dominic Bevan performed music from Byrd’s Masses, Cantiones Sacrae, and religious motets, as well as his organ music.

Peter Day-Milne MA (Oxon) and Matthew Spencer (MA Oxon) are continuing to offer two 12-week modules — one on Rubrics, one on the older versions of the Divine Office.

LMS Pilgrimage to Walsingham 2023

This year's walking pilgrimage to Walsingham will gather on the afternoon of Thursday 24th August, with walking on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There will be an extra Mass on Monday 28th in the Slipper Chapel at the Catholic Shrine for those who stay the night locally. Bishop Peter Collins East Anglia has given permission for us to have the Traditional Mass.

On Tuesday 21st February the Holy See Press Office published a Rescript confirming, for the Dicastery for Divine Worship, certain legal points in relation to the interpretation of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Letter Traditionis Custodes.

New Patrons for the Latin Mass Society

The Latin Mass Society is delighted to announce two new Patrons: Sir Edward Leigh MP, and John Smeaton, former Chief Executive of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children.

Sir Edward Leigh has sat as a Member of Parliament for Gainsborough since 1983. He is among the most respected Catholic members of Parliament, and has served as a Secretary of State and held many important roles in Parliamentary committees. He was knighted in 2013, is an Officer of the Légion d’honneur of France, and a Commander of the Order of the Star of Italy.

Missa Cantata for the feast of SS John Fisher and Thomas More

On Saturday 9th July at 10am there will be a Traditional Latin Mass (Missa Cantata) at Rochester Cathedral in the crypt chapel of St Ithamar, for the joint feast of St John Fisher and St Thomas More in the traditional liturgical calendar.

St John Fisher was the bishop of Rochester for 31 years. Both saints died as martyrs under Henry VIII.

The Mass will be offered by Fr Thomas Lynch, parish priest of Strood. Refreshments and networking after Mass.
