Rev Fr Gwilym Evans FSSP - First Masses of Thanksgiving

On Saturday 18th June, Archbishop Joseph Haas of Vaduz (Liechtenstein) ordained Gwilym Evans to the Priesthood.

Fr Evans FSSP, who is originally from Wales, was supported by the LMS during his time at the FSSP Wigratzbad Seminary and the LMS chairman Dr Joseph Shaw and many others from the UK attended the ordination in Bavaria. He has been on many traditional events in England over the years, particularly the Latin Mass Society's walking pilgrimage to Walsingham: and will do so again this year.

To Chartres or not to Chartres?

This has proved a difficult question!  While COVID restrictions continue to be eased, it is still the case that unvaccinated pilgrims would not be permitted to travel to France without a "compelling" reason.  The organisers of the pilgrimage have therefore decided to repeat the very successful pilgrimage from Ramsgate to Aylesford Priory which was organised a little quietly last year.  So, please join in!

Worldwide petition to Pope Francis

Members and friends are strongly encouraged to sign the worldwide petition to Pope Francis that has been launched at preservethelatinmass.org

The text is as follows. Just follow the link at the bottom to fill in your details.

Dear Pope Francis,

We, the undersigned, fervently appeal to Your Holiness for the preservation of the Traditional Latin Mass (usus antiquior) and the accompanying Sacraments.

Latin Mass Society Statement on Confirmations

The Latin Mass Society regrets to report that Cardinal Vincent Nichols has made the decision that the Sacrament of Confirmation is not to be celebrated according to the 1962 liturgical books in the Archdiocese of Westminster. The annual celebration which has for many years been organised by the Latin Mass Society at St James’ Spanish Place, at which candidates were confirmed by an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese—and on one occasion, by Cardinal Raymond Burke—will accordingly not take place this year, or until this decision is reversed.

Guild of St Clare: London Vestment Mending Days

Faciesque vestem sanctam fratri tuo in gloriam et decorum. (Exodus 28:2)

And thou shalt make a holy vesture for Aaron, thy brother, for glory and for beauty.

What is it all about?
The Guild is the Latin Mass Society’s group for needlework, for the repair and construction of liturgical vestments and the promotion of domestic sewing. Its events are led by members with great experience and formal qualifications in embroidery, goldwork, dressmaking and other relevant skills.

Synod on Synodality

The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has invited the Catholic Church to embark on a journey together. Through listening and discernment rooted in the Holy Spirit, the entire people of God will be called to contribute to a process by which the Church deepens in understanding of Her mission and looks toward the future.

LMS's responses to the Responsa ad dubia

The Latin Mass Society is greatly disappointed by the Responsa ad dubia published by the Congregation for Divine Worship. In particular, we would like to note that the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation by bishops to groups of the Faithful attached to the older liturgy greatly strengthened the sense of communion between people and bishop: this was a regular event in several dioceses in England and Wales and around the world.
