LMS patron launches public petition in support of the Latin Mass

LMS patron James MacMillan has started a change.org petition to "Stop the ban on the Traditional Latin Mass". This petition follows his letter to The Times on July 3rd, which included Catholic and non-Catholic signatories, stressing the importance of the Old Rite and imploring Rome not to introduce further restrictions on the Mass.

LMS Patrons lead a joint letter to save the Traditional Mass

PRESS RELEASE - Latin Mass Society Patrons lead a joint letter to save the Traditional Mass

The Latin Mass Society welcomes the intervention of 48 prominent figures of culture, academia, and politics, including Catholics and non-Catholics, in a letter to The Times published today, in support of the Traditional Mass.

The letter appeals to the value of the ancient Mass both as a cultural artefact—‘a cathedral of text and gesture’—and an irreplaceable spiritual treasure, with a unique ability to ‘encourage silence and contemplation’.

The Latin Mass Society calls for a Novena in honour of Corpus Christi

We appeal to our members, supporters, and well-wishers to pray a Novena with us for a special intention:

beginning on Tuesday 21st May,
and culminating on the eve of Corpus Christi, Wednesday 29th May.

This is not some matter of international importance, pertaining to just one diocese, but it is of great importance for those concerned, and it is emblematic of the sufferings of Catholics attached to the Traditional Mass which have followed Pope Francis’ Apostolic Letter Traditionis custodes.

Pilgrimage in honour of the Martyrs of England & Wales

There will be a pilgrimage in honour of the English Martyrs in Preston on Saturday 4th May.  The pilgrimage will begin with devotions in the Church of St Walburge at 10.30am before pilgrims process to the Church of the English Martyrs, which is a distance of about a mile.  There will be a Solemn Mass offered by the Canons of the Institute of Christ the King at the English Martyrs Church beginning at around 11.30 and this will be followed by veneration of relics.  Tea and coffee will be provided after Mass.

Running to Raise Funds for the Guild of Saint Clare

On 12th May, Lucy Shaw is running the Oxford Town & Gown 10k to raise funds for the work of the Guild of St Clare.

The Guild of Saint Clare is a lay apostolate which serves priests who celebrate the Traditional Mass by mending and making vestments, and teaches the traditional hand sewing skills involved. The growing network of local Chapters enables them to assist more and more priests; but in order to do this work they need materials, equipment, and professional training. This all costs money.

Celebrations of the Sacred Triduum across the country

Celebrations of the traditional Sacred Triduum for 2024 will take place across the country, with the LMS supporting the music at two such occasions.

The Holy See is currently considering requests made by the Catholic bishops of England and Wales for continued celebrations of the traditional Latin Mass.  At this sensitive moment, some clergy are asking us not to publicise their celebrations of the Sacred Triduum too widely. We are regretfully restricting listings to LMS members, who can login to see details HERE.
